What is Hypopigmentation?

Hypopigmentation refers to a condition where there is a reduced amount of melanin in the skin, leading to patches that are lighter in colour than the surrounding skin. Melanin is the pigment responsible for skin colour, hair, and eyes. When skin cells fail to produce sufficient melanin, areas of the skin become lighter, creating noticeable patches.

Possible Causes of Hypopigmentation

Various factors can attribute to hypopigmentation, with injuries to the skin being the most common cause. These injuries include burns, infections, blisters, acne, self harm and chemical exposure. Scars resulting from the healing process of these injuries may appear lighter than the surrounding skin.

Other causes include skin disorders like tinea versicolor, psoriasis, and eczema. Certain skin treatments, including laser procedures (skin resurfacing, hair removal), dermabrasion, and chemical peels, may also lead to hypopigmentation scars.

Care and Treatment:

The approach to treating hypopigmentation depends on its cause

  1. Injuries and Skin Treatments: In many cases, hypopigmentation resulting from injuries or skin treatments may not require specific treatment. However, if the scar is now white, it will simply not resolve itself and melanin needs to be “Encouraged” to return using DermaEraze.
  2. Phototherapy: Laser-induced hypopigmentation, arising from treatments like laser hair removal or skin resurfacing, can be effectively treated with DermaEraze and phototherapy cobined. Phototherapy is part of your aftercare.
  3. Skin Conditions: For conditions like pityriasis alba, psoriasis, or eczema, hypopigmentation that have left long term scars, One treatment is often enough for considerable improvement.often resolves on its own without treatment.

Home Remedies

While no home remedies can reverse hypopigmentation, certain measures can help improve its appearance:

  • Cosmetics: Makeup, self-tanner, or skin dye can make hypopigmentation less visible.
  • Sunscreen: Protecting hypopigmented areas from the sun with a minimum SPF of 30 helps prevent further damage.

Our Hypopigmentation Treatment

Unlike other treatments, ours works to naturally stimulate the remaining melanin in the skin.  We know from years of experience that targeted needling successfully stimulate melanin to return.  We have performed thousands of cases to date and understand this an emotional issue.

Our treatment is natural, and we do not inject substances into the skin.  This is important, as the current trend of tattooing pigment into hypo pigmented scars has proven that long term the results are never good.  We prefer to stimulate your natural melanin.  This way, the colour will always be perfect and you never have to worry about it turning a different shade in a few years.

This treatment is suitable for all skin tones including African and Asian.
