Here are some frequently asked questions that come up over and over again in my consultations.

I never heard of this being done. Are you the only one doing this procedure?

I’m not the only one but there are very few people that have truly mastered this art form.  Even fewer that wish to attempt it.  It required a huge amount of skill and a laser that is safe enough to use on that area of the eye.  I don’t know of anyone else in the UK that is insured to perform this procedure and I know of only a handful of people in Europe.

Is that because it’s dangerous?

The irony is that when performed by an experienced practitioner, it is far from dangerous.  In fact, it has become one of my favourite procedures.  The results are often so dramatic and life changing even from the first treatment that it is wonderful to be able to deliver this service.  It requires the correct eye protection, which means that we will need to insert titanium plates inside of the eye in order to protect the cornea.

How do I know how to choose a practitioner?

This is a difficult one.  I get daily phone calls from people telling me that they have a laser and wish to know where to purchase the cornea protectors!  No doubt these people then go one to do the procedure without training.  I do laser tattoo removal training and will ONLY teach my students after they have been using their laser for at least a year.  Remember these lasers are made with this in mind.  Make sure you see training certificates and ask if they’re insured to carry out the procedure.  Ask for their insurance details and then call the company to make sure THEY ARE insured.  Ask how many times they have performed the procedure!  Do they do one a month or one a day?  Ask a lot of questions. Make sure you feel comfortable with the person.  It took me a long time to get comfortable doing this.  In the beginning I was very honest with my clients when I told them that it was my least favourite procedure!  Oh how times have changed!  I now even do live demonstrations to hundreds of colleagues!

I have been told that migration can not be fixed, is that true?

No, this is one of the biggest mis conceptions of the industry.  I have seen migration shift nearly instantly.  Migration can happen to anyone, even a very experienced permanent makeup artist and when it does it’s devastating for both the client and the technician.  If you’re reading this, let me put your mind at ease, I can remove it provided the colour used is black.  Please don’t try to cover it up with camouflage colours, it will make matters much worse.  Covering migration with more ink, of any colour, just makes my job far more difficult.

I heard that it hurts, is this true?

YES IT IS!  It’s an uncomfortable procedure although most people tell me it wasn’t as bad as they expected.  It is very quick, watch the video above to get an idea.   Most of all, the results are worth it!

What is the recovery like?

The main thing is that you can expect swelling for a few days.  The area should be fully healed within a week.  You may have bruising but the healing is very quick and if you consider the benefits, most people think it’s well worth it.

How many treatments will I need?

Every case is different and it depends on how much ink we need to remove.  It varies from person to person but I would say minimum of three and maximum of ten.  You will be able to see visible results even from the first one.
