Being transgendered is one of nature’s cruelest tricks. Imagine knowing from a very young age that your body doesn’t fit who you are. You know you’re a girl, love girly clothes, soppy novels, and yet, you were born with bits that are clearly not feminine. Or the other way around, you know you’re a man in a woman’s body.
As an average, run of the mill, happily married heterosexual woman, I can’t even begin to understand the immensity or the implications of being transgendered. What I do know is this….I don’t know anything! I could never imagine what it must be like, I can’t relate, I can’t empathise, I can’t even begin to understand the turmoil that realising that you’re in the wrong body must bring.
So why then have we developed such a loyal transgendered following? I guess it’s because we know that we know so little. We don’t pretend “to understand” or “know” what our transgender clients are going through. We are able to relate in other ways…. Many people going through the transition encounter rejection from their families and friends…..that part I’m very well versed in with a divorce and a multitude of family dramas behind me. We are a friendly bunch, we have seen it all and were not easily phased.
We offer such a wide range of services that are transgender friendly that we can help your transition from the early stages to the very end. We carry things that other salons wouldn’t think of, like cover makeup for beards and prosthetics.
Most of all, we really enjoy this side of our business. We never set out to be a transgender friendly salon….It just happened, and we never looked back. We have become the salon the girls come to when they don’t have sisters to ask for beauty advice. We sit down with our clients and show them all the possibilities, show them how to put on makeup, do their eyebrows, perform laser hair removal and send them home with a clear path of how to achieve their vision.
It is a true privilege to be entrusted with such a delicate responsibility and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
