Reasons People Seek Removal:
- The lip tattoo is too bright or not in a desired colour. If this is you, we ask you to wait for 6 weeks. It takes that long for lip tattooing to heal and the correct colour to come through.
- The colour not ageing well: Remember that this a tattoo. Often, permanent makeup artist will promise that the work will fade in 2 to 3 years. However, this rarely happens for lips. This is why you should always go with a colour that is natural and that you will be happy long term. It’s important to understand that lip colours are often on a base of titanium dioxide which is white. This white will often stay because the molecules are very large and once it’s in the skin, they wont shift on it’s own.
- The tattoo was done outside of the lip border: This was a trend about a decade ago. The plan was to give a more youthful look to ageing lips. What has happened is that the area outside of the lip border is a very different texture to the lip, therefore it ages terribly. It often looks like smudged lipstick. Which, as we age, gives a look of not knowing how to do our makeup. Lorena tried to turn this tide during her lectures because it was clear that technicians were simply disfiguring people. If you want bigger fuller lips, there is nothing wrong with using a delicately and naturally done lip filler to achieve this.
- Bad work: This is quite rare thankfully but some work does need to be removed with an emergency removal withing 48 hours.

Methods of Lip Permanent Makeup Removal:
- Laser Tattoo Removal:
Laser tattoo removal is a popular method for removing permanent makeup, including lip pigmentation. It involves using targeted laser energy to break down the pigment particles in the skin, gradually fading the color over multiple sessions. The problem with laser is that if the pigment has Titanium Dioxide, and most do, it will turn dark under the laser. For this reason we usually use non laser treatments 3 to 4 times to get most of the molecules out before we treat you with laser. Laser is necessary in most cases in order to get the remaining molecules. - Saline Solution / Non Laser Tattoo Removal:
Saline solution tattoo removal and non laser methods, involves injecting a solution into the skin to lift pigment particles to the surface. Non laser methods are far more aggressive than Laser and require a lot of care after the treatment. - Topical Creams and Solutions:
Certain topical creams and solutions, such as those containing alpha hydroxy acids or retinoids, may help fade lip permanent makeup gradually. We also recommend exfoliating at home with fine sea salt to expedite the fading of the tattoo.
Aftercare and Recovery:
Non laser methods have a more complicated aftercare than laser and the healing is far slower.
- Non Laser Permanent Makeup Removal: You will need to keep the area completely dry for 10 days. The area will scab and when the scabs fall off, it will take some of the ink with it. There will be a further healing time of up to 6 weeks before you can see full results.
- Laser Permanent Makeup Removal: Laser can take anywhere from 3 days to 10 to fully heal. You can get the area wet after the first 24 hours. You will need to apply the aftercare ointment that you will be provided twice per day.
