Understanding Acne Scars
Acne scars develop when the skin’s healing process is disrupted by inflammation. Which is caused by severe acne lesions.
There are two main types of acne scars. Atrophic scars, which appear as depressions in the skin, and hypertrophic scars, which are raised and often red or discolored. Both types of scars can be challenging to treat, but DermaEraze Acne Scar microneedling treatment offers a promising solution.
How Does DermaEraze Acne Scar Microneedling Treatment Work?
DermaErze Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves the use of a handheld device with fine needles that create controlled micro-injuries in the skin’s surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the skin’s natural healing response. As a result, triggering the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential for skin repair and rejuvenation. As the skin heals, it becomes smoother, firmer, and more even-toned, reducing the appearance of acne scars.

How is DermaEraze Different to Other Microneedling Techniques?
With DermaEraze it’s all about the tecnique. Lorena developed DermaEraze well over 15 years ago to repair stretch marks and scars. The difference to conventional microneedling is the technique. DermaEraze is far more targeted and aggressive in a very controlled way. This means that although recovery is faster than more aggressive treatments such as fraxel laser, the results are far more impressive. The targeted aspect of DermaEraze is what gives us the results with less overall damage.
Acne scars traditionally have been very difficult to treat. DermaEraze will “plump up” the scars by stimulating the collagen in the area. The dents will become less noticeable as your body’s own healing mechanism “fills them in”.
Benefits of DermaEraze Microneedling Acne Scar Treatment
- Stimulates Collagen Production: DermaEraze promotes collagen synthesis, leading to improved skin texture and elasticity.
- Safe and Minimally Invasive: Unlike more aggressive treatments, such as laser therapy or chemical peels, DermaEraze is safe for all skin types (Including dark skintones) and requires minimal downtime.
- Versatile Treatment: DermaEraze can be customized to target specific areas of concern, allowing for precise treatment of acne scars.
- Long-lasting Results: With a course of treatments, DermaEraze can provide long-lasting improvement in acne scars. Gradually revealing smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
- Minimal Side Effects: The most common side effects of microneedling, such as temporary redness and mild swelling, typically resolve within a few days.
Of all of our treatments, our acne scar treatment is by far one or our favourites to perform. Facial scars can be so emotionally draining and being able to help is very satisfying. The photos on this page show improvement after only 1 DermaEraze acne scar treatment.
DermaEraze works by creating precision trauma on the affected area. This sends signals to the brain to attract collagen and lymphatic fluids to the treated area in order to repair the trauma – the scar is then repaired as a by-product of the trauma.
The DermaEraze Scar Microneedling Process
- Consultation: Before undergoing DermaEraze, you’ll have a consultation with a qualified skincare professional to discuss your concerns, medical history, and treatment goals.
- Preparation: On the day of your treatment, your skin will be cleansed, and a topical numbing cream may be applied to ensure your comfort during the procedure. We can also inject lidocaine if the numbing cream is not enough.
- Microneedling Treatment: The DermaEraze device will be gently work on each individual scar. Creating thousands of tiny micro-injuries to the skin’s surface.
- Post-Treatment Care: After DermaEraze, your skin may appear red and feel sensitive. It will look like a sunburn. We will recommend specific post-treatment products to soothe and protect your skin as it heals.
DermaEraze Acne Scar Treatment Expected Results?
Our personal success rate with treatment to date has been been very satisfying with 100% of our clients seeing improvement after the first treatment.
The results are truly astounding! On average we see a 30% to 50% improvement in the texture of the skin with the first treatment. People who have had acne, by the very nature of acne itself, tend to have very good thick skin later in life which is why, acne scars….of all scars…are one of the easiest to repair. This includes old scars.
Over time, the skin becomes smoother, firmer, and more even-toned, with continued improvement in the months following treatment. For optimal results, multiple sessions spaced 6 weeks apart may be recommended.
What Other Scars Does DermaEraze Treat?

Is DermaEraze Acne Scar Treatment Magic?
DermaEraze will not magically make the scar vanish. What it will do is two-fold. It will soften and plump up the scar tissue making it less obvious AND it will induce your own body to re-pigment the scar to the colour of the rest of the skin so that it becomes nearly unnoticeable.
Once the scars have been repaired any redness in the area can be treated very effectively with an IPL laser.
We can also treat Hyper-pigmentation issues which result in darker skin tones.
Aftercare
- Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect your skin from sun exposure following DermaEraze to prevent hyperpigmentation and promote proper healing.
- Gentle Skincare: Use gentle, non-irritating skincare products to cleanse and moisturise your skin during the healing process.
- Patience is Key: It takes time for the skin to regenerate and heal after microneedling. Be patient and consistent with your aftercare routine to achieve the best results. You should see visible results by week 4.
You will be able to get on with your life immediately but should expect to be a bit sore and tender for up to 7 days. You will be able to wear makeup after day 3.
